MAKING MUSIC AND HISTORY IN MONTANA TOPIC AT MHS
Montana history will be music to the ears when Aaron Parrett talks about his new book at the Montana Historical Society.
On Thursday (Oct. 20) at 6:30 p.m. at MHS Parrett will present a free public program, “Montana Americana Music: Boot Stomping in Big Sky Country,” using his skills both as an historian and a musician.
Parrott says Montana’s role in Americana music is as wide and deep as the Missouri River.
From the fiddling of Pierre Cruzatte and George Gibson as the Lewis and Clark Expedition traversed what would become Montana, to the famous Montana Mission Mountain Wood Band of the 1970s, to contemporary acts like the Lil’ Smokies, songwriter Martha Scanlan and Joey Running Crane , Parrett has fixed Montana music’s role in America.
His new book of the same name as his program is available in the MHS Museum Store, and Parrett will be available to sign it after his program.
