Wednesday, September 19, 2018/Categories: Department of Environmental Quality/Tags:

Helena – The Montana Department of Environmental Quality is seeking comments on a draft water quality improvement plan for multiple tributaries to the Madison River in Madison and Gallatin counties.

A public meeting to provide information about the document and the water quality of these tributaries will be held Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2018, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in the Community Room of the Madison Valley Public Library, located at 210 E Main Street, Ennis.

The draft “Madison Nutrient, E. coli, and Metal TMDLs and Water Quality Improvement Plan” describes and discusses water quality problems related to the pollutants of nitrogen, phosphorus, E. coli, copper, iron, lead, and selenium in Elk, Hot Springs, Moore, O’Dell Spring, and South Meadow Creeks. The document provides Total Maximum Daily Loads (TMDLs) to help address these problems and outlines a strategy for reducing pollutant concentrations to meet Montana’s surface water quality standards.

The draft document is available on the DEQ website at http://deq.mt.gov/Public/publiccomment and an electronic copy is available at the Madison Valley Pubic Library in Ennis. Public comment will be accepted until 5 p.m. Friday, October 19, 2018, and may be submitted electronically at http://comment.cwaic.mt.gov/ or mailed to DEQ, Water Protection Bureau, P.O. Box 200901, Helena, MT 59620. Written comments may also be provided at the public meeting.
