Law and Justice Interim Committee Meets January 27 & 28

The Law and Justice Interim Committee (LJIC) meets on January 27 and 28 in room 102 of the state Capitol. The meeting starts at 10 a.m. on January 27 and continues at 8 a.m. on January 28. A tentative agenda and other meeting materials are available at the committee's website:

The LJIC will continue work on two of its interim studies, the HJ 31 study of the Montana Board of Crime Control and the SJ 19 study of sexual and violent offender registries. In addition, the LJIC will hear various presentations related to its oversight of criminal justice system agencies.

Topics the committee will discuss include: criminal interdiction teams operated by the Montana Highway Patrol, human trafficking prevention efforts at the Department of Justice, and program evaluation efforts and data collection work by the Department of Corrections. Other agency oversight includes an update from the Legislature's fiscal staff on the HB 715 study of long-term budget needs and revenue trends.

Meeting materials are available on the committee's website. There will be time for public comment on the studies, as well as other issues under the jurisdiction of the LJIC.
