Governor Steve Bullock Statement on Firefighter Jason Baker

Wednesday, February 20, 2019/Categories: Former Governors/Tags:

Governor Steve Bullock today released the following statement in honor of firefighter Jason Baker following his death to a job-related terminal illness.

“I am heartbroken to hear of the passing of Jason Baker. My thoughts are with his wife, his family and his colleagues.

Jason and other firefighters across Montana put their lives in danger each and every day. We must in return give the respect and appreciation they and their families deserve. For every firefighter of today and who will one day be called to service, let’s get the Montana Firefighter Health and Safety Bill to my desk for signature. We are all Baker’s Warriors.”

Governor Bullock met with Jason Baker of the City of Great Falls Fire Fighters IAFF Local 8 on several occasions.

In every legislative session he has been governor, Bullock has called for a bill to reach his desk for signature that would cover firefighters for job-related illnesses such as cancer, heart and lung diseases, and other occupational hazards. Two weeks ago, he spoke to the Montana State Council of Professional Fire Fighters and encouraged them to keep up the fight to pass Senate Bill 160 and ensure that volunteer and professional firefighters will get the protections they need.
