HELENA -- The Montana Department of Environmental Quality and Ravalli Electric Co-op will present an energy efficiency workshop on April 4th at the Corvallis Volunteer Fire Station.

The presentation will provide information on improving energy efficiency, comfort level, and indoor air quality of homes, as well as information on how homeowners can reduce their energy bills. The Montana Energy Savers Guidebook with dozens of illustrations and energy saving tips will be distributed along with other energy conservation information. Attendees are encouraged to bring a copy of their last year’s utility bills for usage analysis and to be eligible for prizes.

The workshop is scheduled from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Corvallis Volunteer Fire Station on Woodside Cut-off Road in Corvallis and is free and open to the public. Registration will be taken at the door. Information will also be provided on the Montana energy conservation tax credits, which allows up to $500 per person or $1,000 per couple for improvements such as adding insulation, air sealing, replacing windows and doors, and installing ENERGY STAR-rated heating and cooling equipment.

The session will also incorporate energy efficient construction techniques involving items listed in the new Montana energy code. These measures include mandatory air tightness (blower-door) testing, energy efficient lighting, and a basic mechanical ventilation system. The presenters will also discuss innovative building techniques and explain how these upgrades can significantly increase the comfort level of new homes while providing cleaner indoor air quality and lower monthly energy bills. The program will include photos and examples of lessons learned from Montana builders.
