The Education Interim Committee (EDIC) will hold its initial meeting on Monday, June 24, 2019, in room 102 of the state Capitol to chart its course for the interim. The meeting begins at 9 a.m.
Senate members appointed to the committee are Carlie Boland, D-Great Falls; Edie McClafferty, D-Butte; Dan Salomon, R-Ronan; and Russ Tempel, R-Chester. House members are Fred Anderson, R-Great Falls; Moffie Funk, D-Helena; Bruce Grubbs, R-Bozeman; Connie Keogh, D-Missoula; Sue Vinton, R-Billings; and Tom Woods, D-Bozeman.
At this first organizational meeting, the committee will elect its presiding officers, hear from state educational agencies and entities as well as education stakeholders and the public, and discuss its work plan for the interim. Public input is welcome.
Legislative Council assigned House Joint Resolution No. 56 on bullying to the committee. The resolution asks the EDIC to examine the problem of bullying and determine whether changes to the Bully-Free Montana Act (20-5-207 through 20-5-210, MCA) are in order. The committee will also discuss how to conduct this study as part of its work plan at the meeting.
