Economic Affairs Interim Committee Eyes Study Recommendations

Friday, June 22, 2018/Categories: Legislative Branch/Tags:

The Economic Affairs Interim Committee (EAIC) of the Montana legislature will make recommendations at its July 9 meeting on three studies assigned over the past year, including a study of the future of Montana State Fund, the state’s guaranteed provider of workers’ compensation insurance.

The meeting starts at 9 a.m. in room 137 of the state Capitol. The public is welcome to attend and may comment at specified times on the agenda.

Having spent a majority of its study time in the past 13 months on the Senate Joint Resolution 27 study of Montana State Fund, the EAIC is now set to determine whether to recommend legislation regarding revision or dissolution of Montana State Fund.

The other studies undertaken by the committee include one looking at employment reporting and barriers to employment, SJR 20, and one regarding whether to expand the roles of emergency medical service providers in communities, particularly related to assisting veterans. Bill drafts will be presented along with final reports and requests for recommendations for the studies.

Other topics on the agenda include:

  • Updates on a U.S. Supreme Court decision regarding online gaming and the possible impacts in Montana;
  • A proposed committee bill to repeal statutory creation of the Rail Service Competition Council, to which two EAIC members are assigned as liaisons;
  • A proposed committee bill revising Senate Bill 5 from the 2017 Special Session on liquor quota areas; and
  • An update on air ambulance laws at the federal level and a study being done by the Government Accountability Office related to air ambulance legislation in states.

Public comment guidelines are on the committee website. The meeting will be live streamed at and will be broadcast on Television Montana (TVMT). Local channel listings for TVMT may be found here.
