Helena -- The Montana Department of Environmental Quality has granted a request to extend the scoping period for the Adkins Class III Monofill Draft Environmental Impact Statement until July 5, 2019.
The applicants, Michael and Magdalena Adkins, are seeking a Solid Waste Management System license for the construction and operation of a proposed waste tire monofill that would encompass about 11.7 acres. The site is located south of Montana Highway 540 (East River Road) approximately 1.75 miles north of Pray. The facility would be developed in two distinct phases with a total waste tire capacity of 700,000 cubic yards (approximately 280,000 tons) and an estimated operating life of 20 years.
A 30-day public scoping period began May 8, 2019, to receive comments from the public on the proposed project. DEQ held a public meeting on Tuesday, May 28 at the Livingston Civic Center Gymnasium. The scoping period was scheduled to end on June 6. This extension will allow more time for the public and other agencies to formulate and submit complete and detailed comments.
