Committee to Focus on Options for Developmental Disabilities Study

Monday, May 7, 2018/Categories: Legislative Branch/Tags: DPHHS , Children Families Health & Human Services Interim , medical marijuana , Medicaid

A legislative committee will consider several options for action on its study of community services for people with developmental disabilities when it meets in Helena on May 14.

The Children, Families, Health, and Human Services Interim Committee also will review recent changes to the rules for the medical marijuana program and hear about the economic effects of Medicaid expansion in Montana.

For the House Joint Resolution 24 study of community services, the committee will learn more about how the Department of Public Health and Human Services sets budgets for the developmental disabilities program. The committee also will review research on topics identified at their last meeting in March -- direct-care worker wages, crisis services, assessment tools, and funding flexibility. Members will decide this month whether they want to draft any legislation related to those topics.

The committee also will receive an update on the most recent administrative rules proposed for the medical marijuana program before considering whether to file an objection to the rules.

As part of the panel's ongoing review of the Medicaid expansion program, the committee will hear from Bryce Ward of the University of Montana Bureau of Business and Economic Research. Ward has conducted a study on the economic impact of the expanded program.

The meeting will begin at 8 a.m. on May 14 in Room 137 of the Capitol in Helena. For more information about the meeting, including a full agenda and related materials, visit the committee's website or contact Sue O'Connell, committee staff.
