CELEBRATE VALENTINE’S DAY WITH MHS FROM THE HEART EXHIBIT
Stan Lynde was known for his big heart, and Valentine’s Day eve is a great chance for you to celebrate him and his work now on exhibit at the Montana Historical Society.
On Free “Second Saturday” (Feb. 13) at MHS admission is free from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. for you to enjoy the “From the Heart: Stan Lynde’s Comic Creations,” exhibit and sign up for free door prizes. Amanda Trum, the exhibit curator, will be on hand from 11 a.m. to noon for informal discussions with visitors about Lynde and his work.
For those looking for a special Valentine, those who donate $100 to the MHS Montana Heritage Center Fund will receive a signed and numbered (limited to 250) edition print of John C. Ulberg’s portrait of Lynde. The artist is making the prints, which are available at Ghost Art Gallery, in memory of Lynde.
As a special draw, a few first edition signed copies of Lynde’s first novel. ”The Bodacious Kid,” have just been discovered in the many items Lynde donated to MHS before his death. The books and some other signed works by Lynde will be available Saturday in the Museum Store.
The exhibit is a behind-the-scenes look at Lynde’s career from his early high school comics to his nationally syndicated comic strips Ric O’Shay and Latigo that were printed in almost all major newspapers in the nation from 1958 into the 1970s.
Admission is also free at the Original Governor’s Mansion on Second Saturday with the sponsorship of the Helena Community Credit Union.
