STORY OF CALAMITY JANE FROM A FRIEND’S PERSPECTIVE AT MHS
It takes a character to know a character, and that’s the case with a lady of the night talking about her friend Calamity Jane.
On Thursday (Feb. 9) at 6:30 p.m. popular Montana historical reenactor Mary Jane Bradbury will portray Deadwood madam Dora DuFran and will talk about the life of her friend Calamity Jane.
An icon of the myth and real stories of the West, Calamity Jane, whose real name was Martha Canary, was born in Virginia City Montana and became part of the story of the West though her relationship with Wild Bill Hickcock and other adventures.
Bradbury said she is striving to tell the story of the real woman behind all the myth in her presentation. This is the first performance of this program by the actress and historical researcher.
