1972 Constitutional Convention Delegates to meet in Helena for Public Ceremony

The surviving members of the 1972 Montana Constitutional Convention and families of those members now deceased will gather in Helena Friday June 16 and Saturday June 17 for a public reception at the Montana Historical Society and an honorary roll call in the House Chamber of the Montana Capitol.

Event organizer Bob Campbell said the public reception at MHS Friday at 4 p.m. will allow those who are now living under the 1972 Constitution a chance to meet the delegates who created it and to hear stories about the process from those who experienced it.

On Saturday the delegates will gather at 8 a.m. for a public ceremony on the 45th anniversary of the signing of the Constitution in the House Chamber. Surviving delegates will sit in the same seats they sat in during the convention and family members of those now deceased will sit in the seats their loved ones sat in for an honorary calling of the role, Campbell said

Montana Chief Justice Mike McGrath, former Montana congressional Rep Pat Williams, former State Superintendent of Public Schools Denise Juneau, Great Falls attorney Alexander “Zander” Blewett III,  and historian Evan Barrett  will be speakers at the event.
