Friday, April 15, 2016/Categories: Legislative Branch/Tags: Law & Justice Interim Committee

The Law & Justice Interim Committee (LJIC) will meet again on April 20-21. A tentative agenda and other meeting materials are now available at the committee's website, www.leg.mt.gov/ljic.

On April 20, interested committee members will tour the Montana State Prison and Montana Correctional Enterprises in Deer Lodge. On April 21, the committee will meet at 8 a.m. in Helena in Room 172 of the Capitol. At that time, the LJIC will consider and take public comment on several draft bills as part of its SJ 24 study of sexual assault in Montana. Also related to the SJ 24 study is a panel on the sexual and violent offender registry, which will include time for the public to comment on the registry and the laws governing it.

In addition to its study work, the LJIC will hear updates on several criminal justice issues including public intoxication challenges faced by local governments, eyewitness identification policies of local law enforcement agencies and training given to officers, and the DNA database maintained by the Department of Justice.

The April 21 meeting will be broadcast online at www.leg.mt.gov and also over the state's public broadcasting network, TVMT. For more information about TVMT visit www.leg.mt.gov/tvmt.
