The Montana Department of Revenue has processed 244,483 individual income tax returns so far for the 2015 tax year including both electronic and paper returns, and has issued 204,396 refunds averaging $403.

As income tax return filing opens this week, the Montana Department of Revenue reminds taxpayers about the advantages of filing electronically and about changes to refund timelines and tax forms. You can receive your tax refund sooner if you file your taxes electronically. Because of the nationwide increase in identity theft and filing of fraudulent returns, the department is taking more time to review returns to make sure they are valid. This means that it will take longer to receive your refund than in previous years.
