Governor Steve Bullock today announced Montana’s unemployment rate remained stable at 4.1% for the month of March. The U.S. unemployment rate also remained at 4.1%.

The Office of the Commissioner of Political Practices received the attached Order Dismissing Complaint in Eaton v. G. Jarussi, COPP-2017-CFP-010 from Deputy Commissioner Kirsten Madsen this morning.  The COPP would like to thank her for her service to the people of Montana as Deputy Commissioner since January of this year. The parties to the matter have been notified, and Commissioner Mangan determines that the decision will be circulated to the media today.


There remain two additional Campaign Finance Complaints on the COPP's docket for which the investigations are completed, and the Commissioner is in the process of drafting the decisions for vetting: Eaton v. Neighbors for Responsible Legislators, COPP-2017-CFP-011 and Eaton v. Karjala, COPP-2017-012.  It has been a busy couple of months at the COPP and we reaffirm our commitment to diligently working on resolving the many pending litigation, settlement, and complaint issues currently pending with our offices on behalf of the people of Montana.

The Montana National Guard Training Center Headquarters will conduct prescribed burns on the weapons ranges at Fort Harrison on Thursday, March 26th.  Personnel will burn ranges to minimize fire hazards during summer months and lessen the impact to scheduled weapons training.

Governor Steve Bullock today issued an executive order declaring a state of emergency due to flooding in seven counties, and on the Fort Belknap Indian reservation and in the Town of Chester.

The Montana Department of Revenue is following the lead of the federal IRS and extending the deadline for taxpayers to file their state individual income tax returns and make payments. The deadline is tonight at midnight.

Student leaders on Governor Steve Bullock and First Lady Lisa Bullock’s Youth Leadership Council are dedicating this week to fighting childhood hunger in their respective schools and communities. Governor Bullock today kicked off the 4th annual Fight Childhood Hunger Week with a visit to Four Georgians Elementary School’s Breakfast after the Bell program.

The Economic Affairs Interim Committee of the Montana Legislature will meet April 26 on issues ranging from liquor law changes to studies on unemployment and emergency care. On April 27 the members will convene as a subcommittee to hear options for restructuring Montana’s workers’ compensation system. Both meetings will be in Room 137 of the state Capitol.
