Governor Steve Bullock and Attorney General Tim Fox today announced the creation of an advisory group co-chaired by their offices to develop a plan for addressing the economic impact following the closure of Colstrip Units 1 & 2. The Colstrip Community Impact Advisory Group includes state and local officials, community leaders, and labor and economic development organizations. The group will help the community of Colstrip develop a community impact plan guiding disbursement of economic impact funds provided by owners of the Colstrip Generating Facility.

The Libby Asbestos Superfund Advisory Team, which first convened in September, will hold its second meeting Monday, Dec. 18, from 2-4 p.m. at the Montana Department of Environmental Quality in Helena. The team was established by the 2017 Legislature under Senate Bill 315 to enhance communication among stakeholders of the Libby Asbestos Superfund Cleanup. In addition, the Advisory Team will advise Montana DEQ on administration of the Libby Asbestos Cleanup Trust Fund and operation and maintenance accounts. As cleanup nears its end in many of the Operable Units of the Libby Asbestos Site, Montana DEQ and EPA will work with the Advisory Team to establish institutional controls and define operations and maintenance activities appropriate to protect the cleanup in Libby.

Superintendent Arntzen Receives Positive Initial Feedback on Montana’s Federal Education Plan

HELENA—State Superintendent Elsie Arntzen and Office of Public Instruction (OPI) staff received initial feedback from the U.S. Department of Education (Department) today on Montana’s proposed education plan under the federal Every Student Succeeds Act.

Governor Steve Bullock and First Lady Lisa Bullock today announced that a total of $40,541 in private grant funding has been awarded to 10 schools to expand school breakfast programs. Through their Breakfast after the Bell initiative, Governor and First Lady Bullock have partnered with Montana No Kid Hungry to help more than 80 schools across the state serve more than 1.2 million breakfasts to 5,300 additional students.

Governor Steve Bullock and eleven governors from across the country today released a letter to Speaker of the House Paul Ryan, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer asking them to prioritize the reauthorization of the Children’s Health Insurance program (CHIP).

Superintendent Arntzen Announces Suicide Prevention and Response Negotiated Rulemaking Committee Members

HELENA—State Superintendent Elsie Arntzen has selected 16 people to serve on the Suicide Prevention and Response negotiated rulemaking committee (Committee). 

Governor Steve Bullock today sent a letter to Senator Steve Daines, Senator Jon Tester, and Congressman Greg Gianforte asking that the delegation use their positions as Montana’s representatives in Washington DC to ensure the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017 does not inflict harm on Montana’s budget.
