MT Dept. of Revenue to present awards at 2017 Alcohol Education Summit

Helena – The Montana Department of Revenue will present awards for alcohol abuse prevention at its 2017 Alcohol Education Summit next week in Big Sky. This is the third alcohol education summit sponsored by the department’s Liquor Control Division and funded by a grant from the National Alcohol Beverage Control Association.

The award ceremony will take place on Wednesday, August 16, 11:30 am to 12:15 pm at the Huntley Lodge in Big Sky, MT. The awards honor individuals or groups who work to reduce alcohol abuse in communities across the state.

“These individuals and groups strive to improve the quality of life for our residents, educate people on the effects of abuse and save lives,” said Lisa Scates, Alcohol Education Coordinator for the department’s Liquor Control Division. “The issue is broader than drinking and driving. Many social ills occur as a result of alcohol abuse, such as domestic violence, sexual abuse, child abuse, and even trips, falls and drownings.”

Award winners are Sgt. Scott Conrad, Billings Police Department, Ravalli County DUI Task Force, Carroll College Public Health Theories and Practice class, Roosevelt County Commissioner Gary MacDonald, Janette McCollum of Checkers Drug Testing in Sidney, Bob Moretti of Great Falls, Diana Agre of Conrad, and the Substance Abuse Prevention Alliance of Great Falls.

The summit features more than 40 presenters, including subject experts from Montana Departments of Transportation, Public Health & Human Services, Justice and Revenue, the law enforcement community, and various state, local and national organizations.

Several hundred people involved in alcohol abuse prevention are expected to attend the summit, August 14 through August 17.
