Department of Corrections Interim Director Loraine Wodnik today announced that a Montana Women’s Prison inmate who escaped on May 27, 2016, was apprehended yesterday by TriMet Police in Portland, Oregon.  Christina Becker, inmate number 3013318, was arrested in Portland by police with the city’s TriMet transit service.

According to law enforcement officials in Portland, Becker, 26, is being held in the Multnomah County Detention Center on an escape warrant and misdemeanor charges of interfering with an officer and theft of service for riding a train without a ticket. Details of her extradition back to the Montana Women’s Prison will be discussed with authorities in Portland, who will decide whether to hold Becker to prosecute the misdemeanor charges or to waive those charges and instead transport her directly to Montana.

Becker was originally serving a five-year sentence for criminal possession of dangerous drugs and a consecutive three-year sentence for escape in connection with walking away from a prerelease center.  In addition to the remainder of her sentences on those convictions, she now faces charges of felony escape in Yellowstone County, which carry a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison.

According to Montana Women’s Prison Associate Warden Bob Paul, Inmate Becker was assigned to the garden maintenance crew and apparently left the prison over the garden’s perimeter fence on the east side of the facility.  Since that date, the prison has put additional security measures in place.

Currently, 210 women are housed at the women’s prison.
