JAZZ AND DEMOCRACY WITH WILBUR REHMANN AT MHS

Wilbur Rehmann is a jazz man who has entertained Montanans with his masterful music for years.

On Thursday (Jan. 12) at 6:30 p.m. at the Montana Historical Society Rehmann will use his vast knowledge of his musical style to present a free public program “Art and Democracy: It All Comes Together in Jazz.”

Saxophonist Rehmann says the United States is the only place where the art form known as jazz could have been created.

He will talk about the roots of jazz in the filed hollers and work songs of slaves in the early and politically darker days of the nation. He will take the progression of that music into the modern jazz era of the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s.

He will play the music and also illustrate his talk with video footage of the development and meaning of jazz.
