DEQ to Hold Informational Public Meeting for the BN Livingston State Superfund Facility
Helena – The Montana Department of Environmental Quality will hold an informational public meeting on the status of the Burlington Northern Livingston Shop Complex State Superfund Facility in Livingston.
The public is encouraged to attend and will have the opportunity to ask questions. The meeting is Wednesday, March 11, 2015, from 7:00-9:00 p.m., at 414 East Callender Street in the Community Room in Livingston.
DEQ will share information about recently completed work at the Facility, including a brief overview of the bedrock aquifer investigation, the petroleum recovery and remediation, and details on the next steps. DEQ staff will also answer questions from the public.
The BN Livingston Shop Complex includes an active rail yard, locomotive and rail car repair and maintenance shops. Montana Rail Link is the current rail yard operator. Previous rail yard operating practices led to contaminated soils and groundwater. A cleanup decision was issued in September 2001 and has included several cleanup actions and additional investigations. The cleanup is ongoing.
