HELENA – The Montana Department of Environmental Quality is accepting comments from the public on a proposal to partially release the reclamation bond held for Big Horn Limestone at their quarry located 19 miles south of Bridger, Mont.
Partial bond release is being proposed for the completion of grading, soiling and vegetation of 9.2 acres near the entrance to the site. Bond would be retained to conduct weed control in that area. Partial bond release is also being proposed for the completed grading and soiling of 5.4 acres at what is referred to as the trunk dump. Bond also would be retained for vegetation and weed control of this area.
DEQ currently holds a reclamation bond in the amount of $1,834,333. DEQ inspected the site on June 21, 2016 and believes that bond can be partially released. DEQ is proposing to reduce the bond amount by $73,589 to $1,760,744.
DEQ may not release or decrease a reclamation bond until the public has been provided an opportunity for a hearing and a hearing has been held if requested. A request for a hearing on the proposed partial bond release must be submitted by Jan. 16, 2017 to the postal or e-mail address set forth below.
