The evils of drink, the right of women to vote and tight corsets will be a subject brought up from the past at the Montana Historical Society.

On Wednesday (April 19) at 10:45 a.m. historical reenactor Anne Foster will present a free public program “Alcohol, Corsets, and the Vote: A Conversation with Mar Long Alderson.

Alderson was chairwoman of the Montana Floral Emblem campaign, president of the Montana Christian Temperance Union and a leader in the Montana Woman Suffrage Association at the turn of the last century.

Drawing on Alderson’s editorials, writings and speeches, Foster, who is an archivist in Livingston, will talk about things ranging from votes to the evils of liquor to “tight lacing.”
