The Commission on Sentencing will meet on June 22-23 in Room 152 of the State Capitol. The meeting starts at 9 a.m. each day. A tentative agenda is now available at the commission's website. Meeting materials will be posted as they become available.
As in previous meetings, the commission will work closely with staff from the Council of State Governments Justice Center to consider in-depth analyses of the state's criminal-justice system and to discuss options for data-driven policy recommendations the commissioners could make to the next Legislature.
Other topics the commissioners will discuss at the meeting include parole decision-making and the results of focus groups the CSG Justice Center held with offenders and with crime victims and those who advocate for them. The commissioners will also hear updates on the work and recommendations of several other criminal-justice study entities that have been meeting during the past year. Those entities are the Judicial Redistricting Commission, the Task Force on Public Defender Operations, and the Law and Justice Interim Committee, which is conducting a study of sexual assault in Montana.
The meeting will be broadcast online at www.leg.mt.gov and also on Montana's public broadcasting service, TVMT. For more information about TVMT, visit www.leg.mt.gov/tvmt.
