The State Administration and Veterans’ Affairs Interim Committee is meeting Feb. 10 to dive into the legal theory and various models for likening personal information to property and establishing laws about personal information ownership.

The legislative interim committee assigned to monitor state agencies dealing with a broad range of business activities will continue its study of air ambulances and add economic development and a review of proposed fees on dairies and manufacturers of cheese and ice cream to its Feb. 4-5 meeting agenda.

The Task Force on State Public Defender Operations is scheduled to meet at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, February 1, 2016, in Room 137 of the Capitol Building. The Task Force members will continue to examine how the Office of the State Public Defender operates, learn more about how indigent defense services are provided in other jurisdictions, and narrow the scope of the members’ interest areas in anticipation of making recommendations and formulating draft legislation for the 2017 Session.

The Legislative Audit Committee (LAC) will meet February 2 and 3 in Room 172 of the State Capitol. The LAC is tasked with advising the Legislative Auditor as well as reviewing legislative audit reports and releasing them to the public.

The School Funding Interim Commission is holding its second meeting of the interim, a 3-day meeting January 11-13 in room 102 of the Capitol. The commission is focusing on four main areas of concern related to school funding: recruitment and retention of qualified teachers, administrators, and staff; school facilities; special education; and district structure and boundaries.

After 23 legislators objected to 16 administrative rules proposed by the commissioner of political practices, the State Administration and Veterans’ Affairs Interim Committee was required by law to conduct a poll of the full Legislature. Presiding officer Sen. Dee Brown (R-Hungry Horse) and Vice Presiding Officer Rep. Bryce Bennett (D-Missoula) certified the poll’s results on Dec. 23.  The total votes by members of each house are provided in the accompanying table.
