The Energy and Telecommunications Interim Committee wraps up its interim during a meeting September 8-9 and will decide whether to bring legislation before the 2017 Legislature addressing the closure of two coal-fired generating units in Colstrip, revising net-metering laws in Montana, and updating the state’s 9-1-1 laws.

The Revenue and Transportation Interim Committee will hold its final regular meeting of the interim on September 7-8, 2016, at the Capitol building in Helena. The meeting will be held in Room 317 and begin at 8:30 a.m. each day. The committee will finish work on its interim studies by considering requested draft bills for the following studies: tax increment financing districts, the elderly homeowner and renter credit, the Highway State Special Revenue Account, property taxable value neutrality, and tax liens and tax deeds.

The legislature’s Economic Affairs Interim Committee will conclude its year-long studies on the costs of air ambulances and licensing boards at its Aug. 30-31 meeting. The meeting will start at 8:30 a.m. on Aug. 30 and at 8 a.m. on Aug. 31 in Room 137 of the State Capitol. The public is welcome to attend and comment on proposed bill drafts.

The Water Policy Interim Committee plans to sift through public comment during a two-day meeting on Aug. 29-30, as it finalizes its interim studies and weighs possible legislation for 2017. Discussions of the Black Butte mining project, the safety of Painted Rocks and Lake Como dams, the Mountain Water Co. eminent domain case, and the Yellowstone River whitefish kill are also on the agenda.

The Water Policy Interim Committee (WPIC) welcomes public comment on a report and draft legislation related to its study of the future of the Montana Water Court. The WPIC approved a draft of the report July 12 in order to seek public comment. Comments will be reviewed and discussed at the Aug. 29-30 meeting of the WPIC before any final decisions are made.
