The Legislative Services Division (LSD), under direction of the Montana Legislative Council, is pleased to announce a new collaboration with KUSM-TV/MontanaPBS of Bozeman for the operation of the Television Montana (TVMT) state government channel originating from Helena.
Following a public RFP process, MontanaPBS was selected to operate the TVMT channel for a two-year period beginning in July 2017 and continuing through the 2019 legislature.
Since 2001 the TVMT channel has provided unedited, gavel-to-gavel coverage of the Montana legislative, executive and judicial branches of state government. During that time, Helena Civic Television operated the channel on behalf of LSD from the Capitol.
Eric Hyyppa, Director and General Manager of KUSM-TV/MontanaPBS said “We believe our public service mission aligns perfectly with that of the TVMT channel, and we look forward to collaborating with Legislative Services to build upon their past success. We are already discussing exciting technology and programming possibilities that will enhance TVMT’s goals of bringing state government to the citizens of Montana in the most transparent and accessible ways possible.”
Legislative Services Executive Director, Susan Byorth Fox added, “We are looking forward to working with MontanaPBS to launch TVMT into a new generation. We intend to continue our dedication to bringing the citizens of Montana coverage of the Montana Legislature and other state government proceedings. MontanaPBS brings an amazing amount of expertise and professionalism that we think will complement our efforts to date and raise it to new heights. We are so pleased to become their partners,”
In the coming weeks, MontanaPBS plans to conduct a hiring search for a Helena-based TVMT Production Manager.
