Montana Clean Power Plan Subcommittee to Meet

Friday, September 4, 2015/Categories: Legislative Branch/Tags: 111d Subcommittee on Federal Clean Power Plan

At a Sept. 10 meeting, a legislative subcommittee will begin its work tracking Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rules requiring states to reduce carbon dioxide emissions in the power sector by 2030.

The meeting starts at 3:30 p.m. in Room 172 of the Capitol. During the meeting, the subcommittee will organize itself for the interim, elect a presiding officer and vice-presiding officer, and set its priorities. The subcommittee includes four Energy and Telecommunications Interim Committee (ETIC) members and four members of the Environmental Quality Council (EQC).

The federal EPA rules are also known as the EPA's Proposed Clean Power Plan or 111d regulations. The final Clean Power Plan rule was issued by the EPA on August 3 and requires, in general, states to reduce carbon dioxide emissions in the power sector by about 32 percent below 2005 levels by 2030. With a final rule now issued, it is the responsibility of the DEQ to develop Montana's plan for implementing the rule.

If you have any questions about the EQC-ETIC 111d subcommittee, please feel free to contact Sonja Nowakowski, staff for the subcommittee, at 406-444-3078 or via e-mail at snowakowski@mt.gov. Thank you.
