The Law & Justice Interim Committee (LJIC) will hold its final scheduled meeting of the interim on August 22. The meeting starts at 10 a.m. in Room 102 of the Capitol. A tentative agenda and other meeting materials are now available at the committee's website: www.leg.mt.gov/ljic.
As the LJIC wraps up its SJ 24 study of sexual assault in Montana, it will review and take public comment on language for 6 draft bills. After public comment, the committee members will discuss and revise the bills, as needed, and then vote to decide which bills, if any, it will forward to the 2017 Legislature. Other agenda items include an introduction to the chief administrator for the Office of the State Public Defender, a final update on the work of other criminal-justice interim study entities, and a review of a recent ruling by the Montana Supreme Court related to Montana's incest laws.
The meeting will be broadcast online at www.leg.mt.gov/ and also over the state's public broadcasting network, TVMT. For more information about TVMT, visit www.leg.mt.gov/tvmt.
