HISTORIAN JON AXLINE PRESENTS HISTORY OF MONTANA TRANSPORTATION AT MHS

From ancient Native American trails to modern interstate highways, Montana has had a remarkable history of transportation.

Montana Department of Transportation Historian Jon Axline will present “Taming the Big Sky: The History of Montana Transportation from Trails to Interstates” Thursday (Feb. 18) at 6:30 p.m. based on his new book on that history.

In little over a century, Montana transportation routes evolved from Native American trails to four-lane expressways. Axline will talk about the difficult, groundbreaking and sometimes poor engineering decisions that went into that transition.

Axline will sign copies of his new book that is available in the MHS Museum Store right after the talk.
