MONTANA ON THE HOME FRONT DURING WORLD WAR ONE

As the nation commemorates the 100th anniversary of U.S. entry into World War One, the Montana Historical Society will present a program to look back at what people on the home front in Montana were doing to do their “bit.”

On Thursday (April 13) at 6:30 p.m. MHS will present a free public program, “Doing our Bit:  Montana’s Home Front During the Great War.”  MHS Historic Interpreter Bobbi Harris will use the knowledge she has gained organizing tours at the Original Governor’s Mansion to tell the story.

The OGM’s first resident, Gov. Sam Stewart, wrote that “The women of the West are certainly doing their share in bearing the burdens of the war, and we cannot be too eloquent in our praise of their efforts.”

To show those efforts by women and their children, Harris will use posters from the time, magazine articles, photographs, artifacts, and hands-on demonstrations to illustrate the various activities going on here as the war raged in Europe.
