DEQ Offering Funding and Informational Webinar for Nonpoint Source Pollution Projects

Monday, June 1, 2015/Categories: Department of Environmental Quality/Tags:

Helena – The Montana Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) is seeking 2016 pollution reduction project proposals under the Federal Clean Water Act. DEQ is also sponsoring a workshop to provide information about the program to those interested in submitting proposals.

Under the Federal Clean Water Act Section 319, DEQ anticipates about $900,000 of funding available in 2016 to support priority projects that address nonpoint source water pollution. Nonpoint source water pollution may stem from widespread sources and is often generated by land uses such as agricultural and forestry activities, urban and suburban development, and runoff from abandoned mine sites. Common pollutants include sediment, nutrients, pathogens and metals. DEQ is seeking project proposals to further Montana’s goal of restoring waters that do not meet state water quality standards and that are impaired by these pollutants.

Eligible sponsors interested in submitting a project proposal are encouraged to participate in the 319 webinar to learn more about the program and the application process.  The webinar is open to the public and will be held on Tuesday, June 23, 2015 in Room 45 of the DEQ Metcalf Building, 1520 E 6th Ave., in Helena at 9:00 a.m. Remote access is available and details can be found at: www.deq.mt.gov or by contacting Katie Eiring at (406) 444-0549.

All project sponsors must complete and submit a preliminary project proposal by July 27, 2015. Final proposals are due on September 28, 2015. Successful projects will be announced after the 319 Agency Review Panel meets on Thursday, October 22, 2015.
