HELENA, Mont. – The Department of Environmental Quality has completed a comprehensive bond review of the Troy Mine operated by Revett Silver Company. The mine is located in Lincoln County.
DEQ does not believe that the current bonding level represents the costs of implementing the approved reclamation plan for the Troy Mine under the Metal Mine Reclamation Act and related rules.
The proposed bond calculation would increase the bond held for the Troy Mine from the current level of $21.0 million to $24.6 million, an increase of $3.6 million. A major portion of the bond increase is the result of a change in the estimated interest and inflation rates used to calculate the reclamation bond. The proposed bond increase also reflects increased costs of equipment and personnel.
Comments and any questions should be directed to Herb Rolfes, Operating Permit Section Supervisor, Hard Rock Mining Bureau, Department of Environmental Quality, P.O. Box 200901, Helena, MT 59620-0901, 406- 444-3841 or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org. The proposed bond calculation may be viewed at the DEQ offices located at 1520 E. Sixth Ave., in Helena.
The comment period ends on Dec. 9, 2016.
